Instead of telling you how busy I have been I thought it would be nice to actually show you some of what I have been doing. I am working on a new blog -- and really wanted these to go there -- but it is taking more time than I thought to get everything just right and I can't wait to share these with you! I should hopefully have the new blog up by August. I can't wait!
In the meantime I have a very special little baby to show off. She is the best child! She is always happy, always smiling... Can you believe she had her baby shots (vaccinations) right before this session? Most babies would have been cranky but not this one. She is a sweetheart!

I love her facial expressions. You can just tell that she has two adoring parents at home who make wonderful faces at her!

I loved that she was able to sit in my chair! I love this little wicker chair! It says baby to me!!! And the dress. Oh the dress!!!! I miss these little dresses so much. My youngest child is six today and she wants to wear big girl clothes. And shoes. I love bare feet.

There is one place clothes aren't needed -- the bath! Although we didn't have water in there I really wanted to fill it up and let her play. She is such a girl, enjoying her bath as much as any other! Now she needs to learn to read and light candles. Just not too soon. :)

Lulu -- One year

I have photographed Lulu since she was in the womb. Her Mom came to me, trusted me with her maternity photographs, while I was still portfolio building and learning to use studio lighting. I now have a more dedicated space than the ones that I have used in the past but each time she visits this little one reminds me of where I started. Thanks to her parents for trusting me, and to Lulu for having so many faces! I love them all!!!!

Even with all of the faces I believe the one above is my favorite. I love how peaceful it feels.

This one made me laugh. Lulu has so many expressions!

And this! She really enjoyed the furniture that was just her size.

Baby Nolan -- Newborn Baby Photographer, Spartanburg, SC

At one week old Nolan came to the studio for a visit. He was so tiny and so new that I immediately fell in love! Who wouldn't with eyes like this looking at you???

I couldn't believe how alert he was! So advanced for his age!

Here he is holding his Mom's finger. You can see how tiny he is as she is very tiny!

He fit perfectly in the cocoon that I had. Don't let the sleepy photos fool you -- this baby was wide awake the entire time he was here. We are just good like that at making him look asleep! ;-)

Love the hat and his "Sweet Pea" outfit. This is what he wore home from the hospital. Doesn't he look exhausted?

Thank you Baby Nolan for coming to visit me!!! I am so in love with you I may not be able to wait until you are three months old to do this again!!

I have posted photos of Ryleigh on here before, but never as a 4 month old! She has the sweetest personality! She loves her Bumbo seat and loves to sit up in it. I adore the flower headband that she has on! Thanks to my friend Lauren for making three for me.

This will be Ryleigh's first Christmas so of course she has to have a Santa dress and a bag full of toys...

Halloween was a gorgeous day for getting dressed up. No, not that kind of dressed up, this kind -- the wedding kind! Jill and Michael were married on a beautiful fall afternoon, and then danced into the night at Cleveland Park.
These are the shoes. I love shoes. I love silver shoes...

Jill's attendants gave a new meaning to the word. They were incredible and attentive to her every need.

Now on to Baby Lulu!!!! This is such an enchanting child! Her parents are devoted to her and you can see the love that she has for them in her tiny little heart! I love having parents at sessions so they can play with the baby and I can get the expressions that are reserved just for them! Too cute!!

I have never been so happy to blog in all of my blogging life! My account was somehow deleted, and after panicking and going through unmentionable details...here I am! Maybe I should think about updating my blog! Any ideas on where to go?
I was going to go back and try to catch up from where I left off but I have decided to start from what I have and work my way back.
I photographed this little guy Friday, and he smelled, looked, and felt just perfect! I have a couple of friends who are knitting newborn props, hats, etc. and this was their model. If you want info on where to get these fabulous products -- and others! -- let me know and I'll get you in touch!!!

Of course I had to do my signature style just for Mom! By the time the session was half way over he had fallen into such a deep sleep we could do anything with him! I hated to send him home!!!

Meet Ryleigh, a beautiful baby girl with who's (whom's???) photo I have teased you with for days now. Yes, this is the same little girl in the pink hat below. I honestly forgot to follow up on this blog. I'm sorry. We have been extra busy setting up the studio and hope to have it ready and open this week!!!! Yay!!!! OK, back to Ryleigh...
Ryleigh is a very good sleeper. When babies sleep well it is wonderful as you can pose them in so many ways and they will just stay there. I like to photograph newborn babies before they are 10 days old as they still have the cute newborn curl and are so tiny! Ryleigh was just amazing to work with. I could literally eat this baby -- and Clint saw that when I came home!!! The first thing he said was that we were having no more babies, LOL. At least I can play with others'...

A very special thank you to my friend Melissa for making this cocoon for me! Isn't it gorgeous? If you are a photographer and want one just leave me a comment with your email address and I'll put her in touch with you. I think this would also be so cool for new Mom's to have. Its like a blanket/swaddler with feet. Very soft handspun wool, and available in just about any color you can imagine.

I had the first photo -- with the squishy lips! -- enlarged to a 16x20 for everyone to see at... well, that'll have to be disclosed in my next post. It won't take as long this time to actually post it -- I hope! Thanks for reading and be sure and call now if you want Christmas photos this fall!!!!

I photographed a maternity session not too long ago and told the very nice Mom to be that this was not how you looked when you are pregnant with your first child. Well, here I am with another Mom and I'm just saying: this is not what you look like after having your first child!!! Doesn't she look incredible?!?!

I have a fascination with baby feet. I always love to look at them, hold them... One of my favorite photographs ever was when our ultrasound technician took a photo of the feet for us. Our first little footprint. Here are baby Luke's tiny feet!

And here is Luke! What a great baby he is. As soon as he was asleep we put him in these funny poses and he stayed there long enough for me to grab this:

And this! I just don't know if I like these better in color or black and white!

Here is one my own Mom would approve of. She always tells me that babies should look like babies. How precious is a sleeping baby???

I met up with Steven, Kim and Logan at Cleveland Park in Spartanburg, SC. It had been rainy all week and we were worried that we may have a not so pretty day. Ha! It was one of the hottest days we have had and we were all drained and hot and sweaty when it was done.
I'm so glad that they are just so photogenic that no matter what the weather they can look like this! I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!!!!

Kim wanted to try this. Can you tell it was bright out? Their eyes must have been burning, but how cute would this be printed as a square and framed?

Its amazing what I forget to do, and blog seems to be at the top of the list! These are from Easter!!!! We started outdoors and moved inside when Baby LuLu decided she didn't like the grass. That's OK, this sweetie pie can have her photos taken anywhere she wants! Doesn't she look like the classic Gerber baby?

Yes, you do have props totally lying around your house! ;-) LuLu's Mom did a great job with the set-up.

Fun at the Park!

Here are two adorable children that I had the privilege to photograph at the park. I think they were disappointed that we didn't actually go into the park, but we had fun anyway! :-)

I am so far behind on blogging that I thought it would be best to start from way back and work my way up to to now. Keira came to me first when she was a newborn, and here she is about 6 months old. She has grown even more beautiful -- if that is possible! I love the look on her face in this one!

After doing quite a few photos she got tired and took a nap... and woke up happy again!!! I love this baby and can't wait to see her again! Good luck with the modeling!!!!!

Easter Portraits at Hatcher Gardens!!!

This year we wanted to do something different, so we will be offering Easter Portraits at Hatcher Gardens on Saturday, March 28, 2009. Yes, we went crazy and rented the park!

These mini-sessions are a great way to get environmental portraits of your child in their Easter or Sunday clothing – and there will even be a bunny! (Don’t worry, it’s not real. We aren’t that crazy yet!))

Each 15 minute session includes 1 8x10, 2 5x7’s and 8 wallets for $45. We will take up to 5 poses and let you choose your favorite for the prints with no obligation to purchase anything else. If you do wish to purchase, of course you can. We will have Easter cards available, as well as cute composites and a la carte prints. Everything will be ready to be viewed the week after you have your portraits made, and will be back by Easter.

There are approximately 20 spots available for that day, so the first 20 people to sign up win. There is a $25 deposit towards your photos to secure your spot. That means you make your appointment, send us $25 to let us know you will be there, and then pay the other $20 when you show up. If you don’t show up you don’t owe the other $20 but you also don’t get back the $25. (We are renting out the garden with it, LOL.)

Oh Wow!

I have so much news!!! Where to start?
My husband Clint has joined the business and will be involved with everything from photography to sales. I am so happy that he will be working with me! He is my best friend, knows everything about me and still loves me! ;-) We really have a lot of fun together. He will be keeping his day job but has added this on in hopes of helping to grow our business larger. Clint is really friendly and easy to talk to so I know everyone will just love him!
Clint and I went to the Professional Photographers of SC convention last week and had a blast! We learned a lot, met so many cool photographers/friends and came home wanting to put everything that we learned into our business right away. One big change is that from here on out your first glimpse of your photos will be from our projector, unless you have a wedding and then we will still do a preview slide show on the blog. We are so excited when we see your photos that we want to see your reaction when you see them for the first time. We can have popcorn if you want and you can invite your friends and family to come to your projection party! I have so much fun in the camera room that I am really excited to have the opportunity to do this after and have a little more time with you!

On our home school group email there is a fundraiser for a little boy named Misha. Misha is an orphan from Russia, sent to the US for medical care, and the family he has stayed with has fallen in love with him and wants to keep him. You can read the whole story here. I wanted to post this because I feel like it needs to be told and spread and told again! I am at a loss for words other than go check it out!! I am following the blog and praying for a miracle. I hope you will too.

Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I feel so blessed -- God is good!!! I have great friends and family, and I am so excited to start a NEW year! I just love boys! Some may find it surprising to hear me say that -- b/c I always say that God gave me girls to balance out the boys in my life -- but they really are such a treat. I grew up in a house full of girls so I had no idea what I was in for when I had my first son. I had no idea what I was in for when I got married, but when the boys came along I knew that God was teaching me something. It turned out to be something incredible.
Meet Beth and her boys. I had the honor of photographing them when the leaves were just right. She was blessed with three boys, and as you can see is in love with them! I am loving this image as a canvased gallery wrap:

Miranda came to me with her precious little baby...girl! After having three boys a little girl is well deserved. I always tell people how blessed I am to have two boys and two girls -- God completely balanced out our family. I was also never prepared for the energy that little boys have, and these little boys were no exception. I can't believe I got them all to look!

It can be a good thing to have three older brothers when you look like this!

Kelly's Belly!

I wondered when I started photographing maternity sessions if I would get bored easily. The answer is no. Just like with weddings, each couple is different and there are so many emotions and feelings to capture that it feels like I am playing, not working. I also LOVED being pregnant so I have a thing for bellies! ;-)

Meet Kelly, who's belly is just adorable!!! We wrapped her up like a mummy -- but don't worry, the tightness is just an illusion. :-)

Kelly's husband Thom came along and we managed to snap more than a few images with him in them. I love the way this one shows the size of the belly next to his hand. Kelly is a really tiny person. He obviously just adores her!!!

My Daddy passed away Monday morning. Thank you so much for all of your thoughts and prayers! I'm so glad that he is out of pain, but sad especially for my Step-Mom and brother. I'm so glad that I was able to spend the last couple of days with him. That is truly a gift from God.
I will hopefully get to work soon and get caught up. Thank you to all who are STILL waiting patiently for your photos. No more sessions until I'm caught up!!! :-)

Saturday

Today was supposed to be a working day. I had an 80th birthday party to capture and then I planned on catching up on editing while my husband went hunting. Funny how things don't work out like you plan them.
As I was getting ready for the birthday party I noticed I had a voicemail on my phone. I have a loaner phone this week as my old one was messing up...well, the loaner phone is worse than the old one if that can be possible so I am heading to the store ASAP to make them switch it!! Back to the message. It was my brother, Jody. He was calling to let me know that if I wanted to see my Daddy I should come this weekend.
My Dad was diagnosed with liver cancer earlier this year and his health has been declining. Its strange how one day a person is fine and then a couple of weeks later they are ready to leave this world. My Grandmother passed away in February and I still can't get over that. She was mean, LOL, but she was mine. I miss her so much. I have missed a lot of my life with my Daddy. Its only going to be by the grace of God that I get through this.
So, today I went to an 80th birthday party -- beautiful woman, good spirit, great family -- and then I went to sit by my Dad's side. Just being there was good for me. I didn't get editing done and Clint didn't get to go hunting. My 6 yr old niece in Arkansas got a doe and rubbed it in that she was a better hunter than her Uncle Clint! That was funny for her -- not for Clint! ;-)
I want to go back tomorrow and just be there, just be surrounded by this side of my family that my heart has ached for but that I haven't had a connection with for so long.
There will be no funeral, just a cremation. No newspapers, no frills. He wants it that way and my Step-Mom, Nancy, is being so good to him and making sure everything is the way he wants it to be. She calls him BabyDoll. It makes him happy, and that makes me happy. Please pray for us during this time, and hopfully all will be fine soon.

Meet Olivia!

OK. So you got a sneak peek at this gorgeous little girl yesterday but that wasn't enough. You have to meet more of Olivia and her Mom, Jessica. Olivia is one of my newest models for my web site and Jessica graciously brought her in for a session.

Olivia lasted a while but then got tired, as all new babies do. I love the closeness between Mom and baby in this one.

I also love the way she curled her little fingers up at her face!!!

Maybe its because she was going for her hair? :-) How sweet is that??? (And painful -- ouch!)

I had the honor of photographing Samantha this week during the last days of her pregnancy. Is it wrong to be jealous of a client who has a perfectly round belly, no stretch marks and whom you KNOW will bounce back to a size 2 before she leaves the hospital??? Samantha is a doll and deserves every bit of this beautiful gift she has been given!

I had the privilege of photographing Keira and her Mom this past week. Keira was a preemie and topped the scales at just 4 lbs 11 oz. So many tiny babies recently!!! Can you believe her Mom thinks she looks big now that she's an 8 lb'er? LOL

I love this! So sweet, and the wrinkles are in all of the right places. :-)

Meet Seth. Seth is a little baby -- 4 lbs, 6 oz full term! -- and so much fun to work with! He is so advanced for his age. I know that sounds funny but he was three weeks old in these photos and was already holding his head up and rolling over. Here he is playing with his parent's rings between his feet:

I LOVE this one of him. This is a tiny rug so you can see how miniature he is! And look at the little wrinkles on his belly. I could have played with him all day!

Angie is a GREAT Mom! Seth is number four and Angie just keeps going and going... When I had number four I cried for Clint to stay at home and not leave me with all of those babies alone. :-) After the first day I realized they weren't going to take over, but still, it was scary and I had hormones and things happening. Angie is always smiling, always doing and her children always look so well cared for and happy. God has truly given her the gift of being a Mom!

I will be announcing my baby portrait plan within the next three weeks so stay tuned! I am trying to decide what the big kickoff "incentive" should be. Oh wow! Is it September already??? Where did the summer go, and why did it go so fast?
I have kept busy with the children, weddings and photography sessions. I'll try to post a few soon but some are private so sorry! I have also had the privilege of photographing a few sessions for NILMDTS. Check them out, they are such a touching organization.
On Monday I hope to see Sandy Puc in Columbia, SC. I can't wait! Not long after that I will be introducing my new BABY PLAN!!!! Yea!!!! I have baby fever so maybe it'll help to be able to play with other's babies and then send them home, or maybe I'll be pregnant by Christmas! LOL Either way I LOVE babies and definitely have a passion for them. I hope to be THE baby photographer to go to!
On a side note, if you are a photographer you should definitely check out the [b] school. It opens October 1st. I can't wait!!!

My daughters have discovered Julie Andrews so I couldn't resist with the title! I have so many new favorites that it is HARD to choose just a couple to show you. I will be out of town June 21-28 so hopefully I can get some work done to freshen my web site and you can see all of my new favorites there!!!

Here is Rebekah. Isn't she gorgeous??? She graduated this year from high school and is going to college on a drama scholarship. You'll be seeing more of her in the future for sure! Way to go Rebekah!!!!!!Another. I love the light in this one!
Michele & Scott were married March 29 in Columbia. There are too many favorites to count, but I recently used this on the back of my business card -- on pearl paper -- and I am loving it as well!
An April Bride, Jennifer could be a model! I am amazed that my Brides are always so beautiful, and I always want to show them off! The front of my business card.

I ended up editing that a little but it is the same concept. I can't wait for a little time to rest and rebuild the web site! I have been so slow at blogging you will recognize some of the faces but be surprised by the rest. New family and Senior shots are going up as well!!! I can't wait!

On March 29 I had the pleasure of photographing my first wedding of the year in Lexington, SC. I was so excited that wedding season had began again, and Michele and Scott's wedding didn't disappoint!!! I spent the day with fabulous people at a beautiful location having fun! fun! fun! Because I had so much fun shooting away I do not have all of the images ready to show you, but I did want to show you this series of elevator shots that we took.
Scott & Michele planned to see each other before the wedding so they could get a lot of pictures out of the way. I highly recommend this if you want to get to your reception at a reasonable time! The reveal happened by the elevator. Scott was smitten and I thought it only appropriate to hop back in and give them some semi-alone time!

I love the rich, dark tones of the wood in these shots!

American Heart Association Walk-a-thon!!!

On Saturday I had the honor of photographing the American Heart Association's annual walk-a-thon. It was held in Spartanburg at Liberty Park, near Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. I do believe it was the coldest day ever!!! I have been in the snow and have not been cold like on Saturday! The winds were like ice cubes pummeling against you. It was the worst kind of cold I can remember, so all of the people who came out -- some in shorts! -- are definitely my heroes!!

Thursday I met a local homeschool family at a small neighborhood park. It had warmed up outside to about 55* that day -- I think! -- but it was cool by the time we got there and started taking photographs. By the time we left my hands were purple and I wanted to whine but I couldn't because they were being such good sports about it and I KNEW they were freezing!!! The family is very close and the children didn't mind showing affection for their incredible Mom in public. I loved this one:

They just did what came natural! I love that this is so natural for them!!!

Meet Isabella!!!

Isabella joined our family on Friday at only 9 weeks old. She was a little unsure of us at first but has warmed up considerably! Clint said no dogs in the bed, but this one sleeps on the pillow right between us! As soon as we picked her up we had to take a shopping trip to Petco. Do you love this little sweater we found???
Maggie was a little jealous. We are getting used to her in the middle of our bed as well...

Where's Detra???

I'm still here! I had a great time at the conference and am happy to be home. You would *think* that letting four children go to the beach and play in February would be a good idea, right? I think my sister thought it was a good idea, until it happened. I haven't downloaded the pictures from that trip yet but will as soon as I have a chance to breathe!
On another note, my Grandmother has had a heart attack and is not doing well. She's in ICU and my other sister is on her way home from out of state. If you could say a little prayer for us as we go through this we would greatly appreciate it. I have lost one grandmother when I was twelve - and that's it. I am blessed to have my grandparents with me, but my Grandmother in particular has been such a presence in my life that I can't even begin to imagine what life will be like without her.
On a happier note we have a little addition to our family! I'll show you a picture of her soon as well, promise! Hint: She's around 2 lbs and we are wrapped!!! Anyone care to guess?

Going to Conference!

My husband says I have it made, and to hear him tell it I would agree! His last comment came because of my upcoming convention to Myrtle Beach. On Monday I will be headed to the beach for a very quick seminar with exciting photographers I have been dying to meet! I had originally planned on coming home Tuesday afternoon, but I have the room until Wednesday so why not stay??? I will be taking along my sister and my four children, and if I have a spare moment I will of COURSE take some pics of them and post them on this blog next week. Remember that it is February when you start asking yourself why I dressed my children in long sleeves at the beach! ;-) I will have my phone with me and my computer so if you need anything just call and leave a voice mail or email me and I'll be in touch as soon as I can!
I didn't want to leave you without a couple of pictures. Here are two Brides who did Bridal Portraits at the beach in August.

This one was taken in the morning and the water was a little chilly!

Another Bride, another day, but later in the evening. It was much warmer by then!

Can you see the difference in the clarity of the photos? I love to do early morning portraits in the summer to avoid all of the humidity. August is very humid! Plus, if we start in the morning we don't lose our light.

We take a family -- meaning my entire family, Mom and all! -- trip usually in late summer to the beach each year. This year I will be taking appointments for sessions on the beach! I haven't decided on the dates yet, so if you have a favorite leave it in the comment section and maybe we will plan around it! I am trying to work around my summer weddings, so this could be an earlier trip this year. Who knows???

Keith and Jennifer are two of the sweetest people you will ever meet, and together they make the cutest couple! They stopped by Thursday evening to have formal pictures made for the newspaper. We are going to do an informal e-session at a secret place so stay tuned. (Just don't hold your breath too long -- it has to warm up around here first!)

Although I have taken photos for about 14 years, I stopped taking them as a business after I had my first child -- and then three children more! I still took pictures for family and friends but I did so because they asked me, not because I was running a business. Now that I have gotten back into the business end and am comfortable with my digital camera -- actually I am LOVING my digital camera! -- I want to build my business up to be a full time photography business. In fact, just to help get a good "jump start" on a few weddings I am offering a limited number of wedding packages to deserving Brides at obscenely low prices! So its technically not February yet but I couldn't wait another day to post this! For the month of Feb., or from today until the end of Feb., our Portrait Sessions are 1/2 off!!!! Instead of the normal $50 session fee it is only $25. This includes individuals, Seniors, families, babies, engagement sessions...just about anything except Brides. (There will be a special for Brides coming in the Spring so check back!) All portrait sessions include online proofing and ordering for friends and family. Weddings Galore!

Clint (my husband) and I sat down at the beginning of the year and decided that this year we would do things a little differently. Instead of accepting every wedding that comes our way we will have a limit of only 24 for the entire year. By limiting ourselves to 24 weddings we are able to give you more of us, more of a less stressed photographer, faster turn-around on editing and albums, simply MORE. I personally like more, so I thought you would as well!
That being said we are booking up quickly. If you are considering us as your photographer please email or call us now to reserve your date. Once our limit of 24 weddings is met we will refer you to other photographers but you won't be able to have us. :(
We are also getting inquiries for 2009 so if you are a Bride getting married next year go ahead and lock in our early 2008 prices. We will probably raise our prices again once or twice this year -- lock in at the lowest rate you can get!

On Sunday I participated in the Elegant Wedding Showcase at the Marriott in Spartanburg, SC. This was my first ever Bridal show and I had so much fun! One of the reasons I chose this particular Bridal show was because they had a classier feel than the others in my area. They limit the number of vendors that each show can have to five per category. This helps both the vendors and the Brides to not feel overwhelmed.

As you can see there wasn't a "booth" but rather a large open space to move around in:

I also placed Hershey's hugs and kisses all over the tables. Can you believe I still have most of these??? My children don't know yet or I would be crazy by now! LOL

I had the opportunity to meet and speak with so many other great wedding vendors from our area. I will be placing links to their sites on my blog so you can check out their work as well.

Thank you so much for your prayers for Maggie! She is resting comfortably right now and seems to be improving. Although her little face is white and so pale she did had enough energy today to fight with her siblings -- that's a good sign, right?

Our little "elf" has the flu! She has been sick since this morning and we just got the news. Maggie (3) feels terrible, so if you could keep her in your prayers we would really appreciate it! Aheville PUG meeting with Justin & Mary Marantz!!!

Last night Clint and I went to the Asheville PUG (Pictage User's Group) and had a blast! I really thought Clint would be bored but I think he talked more about it on the way home than I did -- and that was a LOT! It was so much fun, and the special guests who came to speak to us all the way from Connecticut were none other than the uber fabulous Justin and Mary Marantz! I was so excited to meet them and they were kind enough to indulge me with a pic for my blog! They actually posted one on their blog as well, and when I saw it this morning I could have died! My children said "Mom you are famous!" LOL Here I am with Justin and Mary -- the nicest people you will EVER meet!

These were taken at the Stoneridge Tavern in Asheville, NC. Its a family owned restaurant and has the most incredible food! I should have taken a picture of how huge my onion rings were but I just dove in instead. If you are ever in the area you have to eat there.
I sat next to Jason Tench of Blue Mountain Photo Works out of Greenville, SC. We had chatted via email prior to the PUG meeting but this was our first face-to-face! Jason is a wonderful photographer and also a very nice person as well. He claims he can make better Starbucks coffee than Starbucks can -- and I'm going to find out! Here is Jason and me:

Regina Holder is our fabulous PUG leader. She kept everything running smoothly and made sure we had a good time! Regina is on the right speaking with Honour Hiers. I was truly overwhelmed meeting all of you -- and can't wait to do it again!
Here is Clint listening to everything everyone said! The very nice guy next to him isn't a photographer either so they had so much to talk about! :-) I caught them in a silent moment but trust me, this was probably the only one!

I have always wanted to meet Corey McNabb! He is such an awesome photographer and does workshops and shares with other photographers. Very nice person -- and he has my card!!! I don't actually know that he kept it but I screamed to Clint when we got in the car "Corey McNabb took my card!!!" LOL

It was such a magical night that it began to snow as we were eating! That led for an interesting drive back down the mountain, but we got home safe and sound and everything is all beautiful and white today!

Ed Pierce Seminar

Sunday after church I headed out to Columbia, SC for the Ed Pierce tour. It was a great way to start off the New Year! If you are a photographer you have to check out Ed Pierce's Photovision. Here is Ed answering questions during the break.

The very talented Parker Pfister was there as well! We got to see a short video of Parker taking photos on location. Isn't it funny how photographers enjoy being BEHIND the camera???? No one at this seminar wanted their picture taken, LOL.

I had a lot of fun! If you are a photographer wondering whether to go or not go! It wasn't life changing but I learned something and got some great ideas. You should learn something every chance you get.

Edited to add: So many people are finding this through searches that I think it should be edited to add that the DVDs alone are worth going for! Incredible value.

Wow! Can you believe that it is 2008??? I am still planning for Christmas -- and I can't believe its over. Just like that. Time, it is a flying!
We spent a nice time at home for Christmas. Here is a cute photo of Maggie in her Christmas pjs! Now THAT is a 3 yr old with attitude! LOL She insisted on wearing her pajamas shopping. Better a happy little girl at the mall than a screaming one! I'll choose my battles.
I had the opportunity to capture a beautiful wedding December 22! I love Christmas weddings. Everything is so pretty and sparkly. I'll do a post all by itself of the Bride, Summer. She was absolutely breathtaking!
I have bought a new website that will accommodate larger photos and is really nice looking. Hopefully it will be up soon -- I can't wait!!! I am thinking of switching from dowlingphotography.org to dowlingphotography.com. What do you think? Would it be too confusing? Someone help me decide!!! We are getting ready to grow by leaps and bounds so if we are going to do it now is the time! (But we don't want to lose anyone either!) Leave a comment and tell me what you think!

Meet Kim and Steven, a gorgeous couple from Weaverville, NC, located just outside of Asheville. I went up the mountain for their beautiful Wedding Day October 20, 2007 and captured some of these moments of the two of them. You have to check out their slideshow. There were so many pictures I wanted to post here but didn't have enough room to do it! Link is at the end.

They were incredibly photogenic, and the beautiful stone church with the red door had me at first sight!

We hurried through these next pictures! We stepped inside the church to take them and good girl that I am, well, I felt like we were sinning... But they were married! ;-)

Doesn't every woman want to remember being sexy on her wedding day? I love the sparklers! A must for night receptions!!

Wow! What a busy time we have had here. We finally turned the keys in to the old house on Wednesday, so we are here for good (hopefully) and will (again, hopefully) have more time to spend on our new house! I am very excited to start decorating. I have a lot of ideas but tend to change my mind often, so we'll see what the final result is.
The boys finished up soccer and had a great time. Tomorrow is our first Saturday without a game, and I have to admit I am a little sad. They will begin Basketball in a month, so I guess this is just our resting time!
We went for a walk through our new neighborhood this evening. It took us about 45 minutes to walk less than a mile, and there was crying and complaining the entire time. My children don't want to have any more "fun time" with me! I think we will make it a daily habit, as they went to bed on time and actually fell asleep with no fussing. Talk about a sweet night! I dread putting them to bed and having them whine and complain and cry and fight with one another. If the mile stops doing the trick we'll just up it. Hey, we can all use the exercise. ;-)
I shot my last booked wedding for the year two weeks ago. It was so much fun and I just fell in love with the couple and the town, Weaverville, NC, right outside of Asheville. Everything was perfect, and just as I thought I was "done" for the season my portrait sessions have taken off! This actually makes perfect sense, as the leaves are gorgeous right now, no one has to melt b/c the air is clean and crisp and cool, and you can use your photos for Christmas cards! My session fees are $50, and then you can order whatever you want from the website. No minimum order required.
I'll update more often now since the craziness is over. Or maybe it has just began? :) Prayers welcome!!!

Vacation time is here!!! YEA!!!! I am so excited to be going on vacation with my entire family this week. My sisters are both going to be there with their families, and my Mom will be coming as well. Clint has to come back to work Wednesday, but he and I will go back for a wedding two weeks later by ourselves so its not too much of a downer. While we are there I will be shooting at least two Trash the Dress Sessions, possibly three -- if my sister can fit back into her wedding gown! She did give me a nephew last year, so we may have to wait until next summer for that one. Either way, I am so excited and look forward to these. Most gowns are not completely trashed after the session, they are just in dire need of a good dry cleaner. I'll post some pics when I get back!
I will also be shooting a few family portraits while there. Its almost the end of summer, so if you haven't had your family portraits made yet think beach! I can be reached at 864-978-4327 for last minute sessions. There is a $50 sitting fee, then you may order a la carte online. Its just too easy.

David Hessemer is doing a blogathon TODAY for his "Through Their Eyes" Africa project. He is going to be taking a team (Jessica Claire and David Jay included) to Africa next year to areas where all the adults have died and the children are more or less on their own with little aid. In addition to helping the people living there, they will also be teaching them to take photographs, in the hope of giving them a skill as well as to be able to see the world the way they see it. The photographs they take will be formed into a traveling exhibit all over the country. It's really a fantastic project, however, it needs funding to make it happen! Clint and I went to a wonderful cookout given by one of his friends from work. I was able to put a lot of names and faces together and we had a lot of fun. Here's a pic of Clint I snapped with my new lens...
Everyone was a good sport and let me take pictures, but out of respect for privacy I'm not posting their faces all over the Internet for everyone to see. I will show you two fabulous cooks: Bo Dean and Kevin. Thanks for the great steak, men!
Their was a uber cute pond in the front yard. It was so long I couldn't fit it all in my lens!
It even came complete with frogs!! Here's one that croaked louder than we talked that evening. You know you're in the country when you have to raise your voice to be heard over the frogs!

Happy Summer!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to drop a line and let ya'll know I'm still around! ;-) Summer is a crazy season for us, and we have been having fun and getting things together to move as well! We will be moving within the next couple of months to a new home that we are buying. Its only about a mile from where we live now, but its in the county, we are currently in the city, so we are hoping for lower taxes!! It also has a great fenced in backyard for the children and dog to run around in. Stay tuned for updates. We sign the papers Thursday!!

On a different note, my children have turned into fish! My BABY, Maggie, will be three July 9 and she loves the water. Of course my older children do as well, but not one of them has been brave enough to venture out into the deep water by themselves this young. I'm sure the swimmies and the flotation device helped, but hey, she's two! She didn't want to open her eyes b/c of the glare, but the pic above is all the proof I need for her baby book.

Speaking of water, I am offering a free "Trash Your Dress" session to anyone who would like to help me with my portfolio. I have a couple of Brides who want to do this in August, but I want to do one now. If you have a dress and want a free shoot give me a call! Surprise Birthday Party!

I shot a surprise birthday party at Cleveland Park Hall last Saturday. It was a lot of fun and I had a great time! Everyone made me feel so welcome, I learned about a different culture and tasted some new food! A few pics:

The cake was my favorite part! After singing Happy Birthday the family and friends got to feed cake to the birthday man -- until he said Stop! I want to do that on my birthday! (And not stop!!) ;-)
This is a picture of some of the food that I had. It was catered by the family's restaurant, the Five Spices, located off of East Main Street in Spartanburg, SC. If you are ever in the area you have to try this! It was so good! Clint & I plan to go there soon for our date night!

Kristy & Travis's Wedding!!!

Kristy and Travis were married at Rainbow Lake Pavilion on June 2. They were so much fun to work with, and SO in love that everyone around just had so much fun!! Here are a few shots from the wedding:

Kristy's Bridal Session

Kristy's Bridal Session was so much fun! The two images above are the ones that will be displayed at the wedding tomorrow. I love the Magnolias! Fits in so perfectly with a Southern Bride.
Kristy's fiance actually came with her to the shoot so I can't take credit for all of the pictures! He had a lot of great ideas, and even posed so she would know exactly what to do! ;-) It was very different from most shoots, but we laughed the entire time so it was a good different.
Kristy chose to order a 16 x 20. This is the size that I have of my own wedding portrait. If you would like to have me photograph your Bridal Portrait there is a $75 sitting fee, then you can order by the print. 16 x 20's are $75.00, or add canvas for $100 more. Bridal shoots can last up to two hours, at a location of your choice.

Carter caught his first fish!!

My third child, Carter, caught his first fish on Memorial Day. He was SO proud of that fish, and his older brother, Andrew, keeps talking about the "bass that got away!" I have had so much fun with my shoots this week -- and I still have one left to do!
Here are the amazing Kim and Steven. Their wedding is in October so don't forget to check back and see how cool it was. Kim has really great taste and showed me lots of pictures from other photographers of things that she liked. I enjoyed working with them and can't wait for the Bridal!

Here is the most adorable baby boy. He has the sweetest smile, cutest little teeth and an amazing endurance for staying in front of the camera! I also got to try out my new prop on him. Check it out:

Isn't she beautiful? She competed this weekend in a state pageant and I was lucky enough to be able to take some pics of her for her portfolio. Will update you as to how she did. Here is a family portrait of Mark & Tory and children. I used this set up for the church pictures I did.

How cute are these children???? I LOVED this picture -- look at his face! A surprise picture for Mother's Day! We went out into nature to get this shot! Their Mom had NO idea this was happening!!!

Such a busy week!

I have been shooting like a crazy lady for the past week and I am so tired!!! I had the anniversary wedding that I will post pics of early next week, a couples shoot -- I have a new favorite picture! Some of these will go on the website, as well as here, next week. Also, an aspiring model who will be in a state pageant in two weeks, and a family portrait today. That on top of a really awesome birthday party for my daughter's friend (Happy Birthday Claire!!) and a busy week filled with phone meetings and regular everyday stuff has left little time for laundry and dishes! Luckily, I have a great husband who supports me and understands. Sort of. ;-)
Friday my husband's brother will be here from Florida for a quick two day trip, then Saturday I have an all day shoot at a church/preschool in Traveler's Rest, so a busy weekend again -- and then I breathe! Hopefully, at least, between editing all of these pictures. I didn't realize just how much I tend to overshoot until I sat down to edit this week. Its amazing how fast a couple of shots turns into a couple of hundred! I do love every minute of it, and do realize just how blessed I am to be doing what I love. I have an early appointment in the morning with my amazing hair stylist, Lexi, so off to bed for now. Talk to you soon!

Rehearsal Tonight

The Jetts' are a lot of fun -- and still in love after all these years!!!

The Pastor had fun with this couple as well!

The rehearsal tonight was so different than any I have been to. The couple is celebrating their 50th anniversary tomorrow night by renewing their vows and holding a complete ceremony at church, with a reception afterwards. The wedding party consists of their sons and daughter-in-law as the three "oldest" members, and then lots of children as the junior bridesmaids and groomsmen. It was so fun to watch the little girls and boys as they held onto each others arms walking up the aisle. They were so nervous and embarrassed walking together. At that age I would have just died before I would have held a boys' arm. It will be fun to see how they do in front of so many people tomorrow! I can't wait. Congratulations to the Jett's for 50 years together! I wish you all the best in the years to come!!!

I have been toying with the idea of starting a blog, since it is the new "must-have-accessory" for spring, so here it goes. Welcome to my blog! I hope that you will bookmark me and get to know me a little better through my entries. I'm Detra, wife to Clint and Mom to four beautiful and wonderful children. I have been taking pictures since I was old enough to hold my Mom's camera. I love to capture what I see, and I love to look at what other's see as well. Some of my favorite photographer's right now are Jessica Claire, Denis Reggie, and [b]ecker.
I will be shooting a rehearsal dinner tomorrow, and then a 50th wedding anniversary renewing of the vows -- which is a complete ceremony, bridesmaids and all -- on Wednesday, so stay tuned for more info on that.
